Early Childhood Career

Having an early childhood career is quite possibly the best career you can have.

You’re shaping the lives of young children and setting them up for success for the rest of their lives. There is nothing quite as special as that!

There are many different paths you can go down with early childhood as your focus.

It’s important to decide what your end goal is so you can take the appropriate steps to meet that goal.

You can work as a:

• Child care provider
• Nursery school or preschool teacher
• Aide or assistant
• Private school teacher
• Public school teacher

In fact, you can get your feet wet by being an aide or an assistant, and go to school all the while to earn your bachelors degree, master’s degree, or PhD. Choosing your career path right now doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it forever, as there is always room to learn and grow.

Before you settle in with training, classes, and job applications, it’s best to really decide if this is the career for you. There are many people who love being around young children, but aren’t well suited to a career managing them. There is a lot to learn as well as a lot of theory as well as practical studies that you need to wade through to determine best practices. There can also be administrative red-tape that can be hard to cut through if you aren’t well suited for the job.

That isn’t to say that having an early childhood career isn’t fabulous, because it is! It just takes a very special person with a lot of determination and motivation to succeed.

It’s definitely best for you to outline your career goals and then determine what kind of training you will need. There are some jobs that will only require you to have certification to work with young children. These are often childcare jobs. There are others that will require you to have at least a bachelor’s degree, like being a public school teacher.

Put your education first, because when you come out with the right skills and knowledge you should have no trouble finding a job. Luckily, the outlook for early childhood workers is very good. There is a need for skilled people to shape our youth, especially as baby boomers reach retirement age.
